TELETUBBIES CELEBRATE ONE YEAR IN AMERICA (APR. 6)

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Wireless Flash) -- Those Teletubbies are back in the news: this time Tinky-Winky, Laa-Laa, Po and Dipsy are celebrating their first anniversary in America. On April 6, 1998, the "Teletubbies" TV show made its U.S. debut after the series caused a stir in its native homeland of England. The show is so popular in the U.K. that one British couple even named their newborn child Laa Laa. Other Teletubby trivia... -- Although details about the TV show are kept top secret, internet rumors claim the actors who play the Teletubbies have to take off their masks every 10 minutes to prevent carbon dioxide buildup. -- A spokesperson for Itsy Bitsy Entertainment, which licenses the Teletubbies in America, says many parents claim their child's first words weren't "Mama" or "Dada," but Teletubby terms like "Laa Laa" or "Big Hug." -- And, finally, the kids' show has inspired at least one English woman to tattoo all four Teletubbies on her heiney.
