DIANA ROSS TURNS 55 ON FRIDAY (MAR. 26)

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- This Friday will mark the 55th birthday of famed soul singer Diana Ross -- or should we say Diane? The truth is, Ross's parents wanted to name her "Diane" -- but a hospital staff member goofed on her birth certificate and wrote "Diana" instead. Either way, the Ross family called her Diane until she joined the Supremes. Other supreme stats about Ross... -- She studied fashion design in high school which came in handy for the 1976 film, "Mahogany," in which she designed her own outfits. -- Although "Someday We'll Be Together" is credited to Diana Ross And the Supremes, Ross is the only Supreme singing on the record. -- And, finally, even though she recorded 12 takes of "Touch Me In The Morning," the song still needed 300 hours of editing before it was ready to be released. According to co-writer Ron Miller, "There aren't even three syllables from one performance together on the final product."
