BRITNEY SPEARS: MORE INNOCENT THAN YOU THINK

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Teen singer Britney Spears' video for her No. 1 hit -- "...Baby, One More Time" -- is arousing controversy along with her fans -- but she has no clue as to why it's happening. "Rolling Stone" magazine is reporting that the 17-year-old singer is perplexed that critics find scenes of her cavorting in bare midriff tops and short skirts exploitative. Britney says she's the one who chose to wear the slinky clothes and thigh-high stockings, which are nothing compared to the butt-bearing thongs worn by other women on MTV. She's also surprised that people assume the song's line, "Hit me baby, one more time" is a masochistic come-on and insists the "hit me" line simply means, "Give me a sign." But Britney isn't completely naive. She admits she made producers rewrite one song because she felt the original lyrics were "a little too old for me."
