ROYAL PHILHARMONIC STRINGS U2 ALONG

LONDON (Wireless Flash) -- U2 fans who "still haven't found what they're looking for" may soon find something they don't want: a CD featuring symphonic renditions of U2's hits. On April 20, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will release a CD containing 12 classical renditions of the band's best-known songs including "One," "Sunday Bloody Sunday," and "Desire." The orchestra's musical director, Michael Infante, admits reworking Bono's melodies for violins and cellos was one of the hardest musical projects he's ever attempted. In fact, he claims the Royal Philharmonic had an easier time recording classical renditions of Madonna and Oasis who rely more on melody than U2 does. Nevertheless, Infante is proud of the CD, especially the version of "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" which describes as having a "lush, violin sound." The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra also plans future CD tributes to R.E.M. and Meat Loaf.
