GUINNESS ANNOUNCES AROUND-THE-WORLD ROAD RACE (EMBARGOED UNTIL TUESDAY, APRIL 20)

LONDON (Wireless Flash) -- Remember that 1965 Tony Curtis movie, "The Great Race," that centered on a race around the world? Well, this October, the "Guinness Book of World Records" is holding a similar challenge: a 35,000-mile around-the-world auto race. The proposed trek will start October 15 in London and contains six separate legs that will lead to the finish in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The contest is open to any racer who can afford the $160,670 entrance fee, and contestants can even use their own cars. However, since all drivers must obey local speed laws, Ferraris won't necessarily have an advantage over all-terrain vehicles. The contest will have set starting and ending points on each continent but racers can choose any route they want in between. Giant cargo planes will airlift contestants from continent to continent. Although the race could take as little as 13 days under ideal conditions, it's designed to be as difficult as possible and may take two-and-a-half months to complete.
