`LETTUCE' RING IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM: SALAD PYRAMID HONORS Y2K

VIENNA, Austria (Wireless Flash) -- Farmers in Austria are in the process of constructing what may be the most bizarre memorial to the new millennium yet: a 9-foot-tall pyramid of lettuce. Nearly 2000 heads of lettuce will be piled into a pyramid in downtown Vienna on April 27 as a farewell to the year and a hello to the new millennium. Although the greetings are eight months premature, organizer Josef Peck says the farmers decided on the bizarre lettuce monument because they want to do something that has never been done before. Once constructed, the lettuce pyramid will be on display for just one day to prevent wilting and rotting. After that, spectators will be able to buy heads of the millennium lettuce for about a dollar apiece.
