REAL-LIFE ROSIE THE RIVETER GETS HOMETOWN HONOR

LANSING, Mich. (Wireless Flash) -- The name Geraldine Hoff Doyle may not ring a bell, but her face sure will. Doyle is the real-life model for "Rosie, The Riveter," a 1942 government poster that convinced millions of American women to help out during World War II by working in factories. The now 74-year-old Doyle was photographed on her first day of work, but she quit after only 10 days because she was afraid of having an accident with the heavy machinery. Although "Rosie The Riveter" is one of the most famous posters in American history, Doyle didn't even realize she was the model until 1984 when her daughter spotted her photograph in an old magazine. These days, Doyle is flattered when she sees the Rosie poster -- even, she jokes, when "...it's in a feminine hygiene ad." Doyle's hometown of Lansing, Michigan, has declared May 15 as "Rosie The Riveter Day."
