A MAN'S TURF: LOVE OF LAWNS GOES BACK TO PRIMAL TIMES

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Ever wonder why men are so obsessed with their lawns? A lawn care expert thinks he knows why. Warren Schultz, author of the new book "A Man's Turf: The Perfect Lawn" (Clarkson-Potter), claims the male love of lawns goes all the way back to primal times. Schultz says modern lawns look very much like the African savannah where humans first developed, and that's where the instinct to cut, trim and clear a patch of grass comes from. He says large patches of grass represent safety in the male psyche, because grass provides a low, flat surface where you can see any predators that may be approaching. Schultz also says a man is drawn to lawn care more than a woman because it makes him feel like he's protecting his castle - - but it's also an act of machismo because he's conquering nature by mowing and trimming it into submission.
