BEATLES' `ED SULLIVAN' APPEARANCE: ROCK'S ALL-TIME GREATEST MOMENT

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Rock and roll has been going downhill since 1964, if the editors of "Entertainment Weekly" are correct. The magazine's editors have just picked "The 100 Greatest Moments in Rock," and topping the list is the Beatles' first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," followed closely by Chuck Berry's recording session for "Maybellene." Some of the more oddball moments in rock history on the list include... -- No. 33: Beach Boy Brian Wilson's nervous breakdown in the mid-60s. -- No. 36: Lou Reed's first electroshock treatment. -- No. 59: M.C. Hammer samples Rick James' "Super Freak" and turns it into "You Can't Touch This." -- No. 72: The 1984 release of "This Is Spinal Tap." -- And, finally, No. 95: The day Geri Halliwell -- a.k.a. Ginger Spice -- left the Spice Girls. The complete list appears in the latest "Entertainment Weekly."
