`GIVE PEACE A CHANCE' RECORDED 30 YEARS AGO (MAY 31)

MONTREAL, Can. (Wireless Flash) -- Monday (May 31) might be a good day to give peace a chance -- it's the 30th anniversary of the day John Lennon and Yoko Ono recorded "Give Peace A Chance" from a bed in a Montreal hotel room. The Lennons recorded the song in suite 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel during their famous "Bed-In For Peace." Sources say Lennon wrote the song in minutes in the bedroom and mentioned Timothy Leary and Tommy Smothers in the lyrics simply because they happened to be in the room at the time. Then Lennon hauled his bed into the living room and turned the suite into a recording studio filled with about 50 hippie well-wishers, who littered the floor with flowers and fruit. Although suite 1742 at the Queen Elizabeth is now a shrine for Beatles fans, folks won't be given a chance to see a piece of history on Monday because a Canadian radio station has booked the suite and will be broadcasting live from the room.
