BEACH BUNNIES AT RISK FOR BAD TEETH

BEACH BUNNIES AT RISK FOR BAD TEETH

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- A Beverly Hills dentist is issuing a warning to frequent beach-goers this summer: the sand could be ruining your teeth. Dr. Andrew M. Lewis says beach bunnies often get particles of sand in their mouths from swallowing salt water or eating sand-covered snacks -- but all that grit can wear down tooth enamel. Constant exposure to sand can also etch grooves in the teeth, making the choppers more sensitive and, in some cases, causing jaw pain. Dr. Lewis says you can reduce tooth damage by swishing your mouth out with clean water whenever it starts to feel gritty -- but don't use a cola. It contains acids that can eat away even more tooth enamel.
