ONE-HIT WONDERS ATTEMPT MASS COMEBACK

PALMDALE, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- The phrase "everything old is new again" may soon apply to the TV variety show. That's because some of rock 'n' roll's most notorious one hit wonders from the '50s and '60s will soon be attempting comebacks via a proposed variety series called "Rock & Roll Legends Live." The series -- which will debut sometime in 2000 -- will feature live performances by one-hit wonders including Jean Knight ("Mr. Big Stuff"), Lenny Welch ("Since I Fell For You"), and Ernie K-Doe, who sang "Mother-In-Law." Other one-hit wonders scheduled to appear include Jewel Akens, who sang "(Let Me Tell You 'Bout) The Birds And The Bees," Merillee Rush ("Angel Of The Morning") and "Show And Tell" singer Al Wilson. The variety series is being produced by former one-hit wonder Ron Dante, who sang lead on the Archies' No. 1 hit, "Sugar, Sugar."
