MOBY DICK MARATHON SETS SAIL THIS WEEKEND

MYSTIC, Conn. (Wireless Flash) -- The only thing scarier than running into "Moby Dick" might be trying to get through the entire book. That's what will happen this weekend in Mystic, Connecticut, when "Moby Dick" maniacs will gather aboard a vintage whaling ship to participate in the annual Moby Dick Marathon. About 131 folks -- one for each chapter -- will read aloud from Herman Melville's 1,011-page book -- and some are planning to do it entirely from memory. The marathon begins at noon Eastern time and will last all night until the book is finally finished -- about 24 hours. Unfortunately, since the whaling ship is closed during the late evening and early morning hours, some of the readers will only be heard by the maintenance crew. If all goes well, the marathon reading will end around 12 noon on Sunday (Aug. 1), which just happens to be the 180th anniversary of Herman Melville's birth.
