PET PLASTIC SURGERY ON THE RISE

BOSTON (Wireless Flash) -- Middle-aged socialites and teenage debutantes aren't the only ones getting plastic surgery these days -- so are their four-legged friends. That's according to animal plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Paveletic, who says business is booming -- and for all the right reasons. Unlike their human counterparts, Dr. Paveletic's patients are animals who truly need surgery, not cosmetic tummy tucks. That includes dogs who have so many skin folds in their faces that they aren't able to see and pets with disfiguring tumors in their lips and cheeks. Although the doctor has had requests to perform purely cosmetic procedures such as straightening canine teeth, he says he would never do it because it's cruel to make an animal undergo surgery unless it will improve its health.
