`SPACE: 1999' GETS ITS OWN CONVENTION

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Old TV shows never die -- they just inspire fan conventions. Case in point: the 1970's Sci-Fi series, "Space: 1999," which will be the subject of a convention in Los Angeles next month. Organizer Terry Bowers says even though "Space: 1999" didn't exactly rocket up the ratings during its three-season run, she still expects nearly 250 "Space: 1999" buffs to attend the three- day convention, which will feature appearances by series stars Martin Landau and Barbara Bain. And just as "Star Trek" fans have a nickname -- "Trekkers" - - "Space: 1999" fans have their own moniker: "Alphans," after the moon base where the show was set.
