NOT-SO-SWEET FLAP OVER `PSYCHO SAM' CANDY

ARLINGTON, Va. (Wireless Flash) -- A mental health advocacy group is getting a sour taste in its mouth over a line of candy called "Tangy Taffy." The candy features cartoon characters on each package named "Psycho Sam," "Looney Jerry" and "Weird Wally." A spokesperson for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill says the names are offensive and trivialize serious mental illnesses. The organization is also worried the crazy candy names will put a stigma on mental illness and possible encourage children with mental illness to commit suicide instead of seeking help. The group has asked Nestle, the manufacturer of Tangy Taffy, to remove the offensive packages from store shelves or change the crazy names. However, Nestle claims the nutty names aren't intended to offend anyone and are merely "silly, playful humor" meant to amuse children who eat the taffy.
