BOB DYLAN GOT BEATLES HIGH 35 YEARS AGO (AUG. 28)

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash) -- This Saturday (Aug. 28) marks the 35th anniversary of what some believe was the beginning of the modern-day drug era -- the day Bob Dylan introduced the Beatles to marijuana in a New York hotel room. According to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Law, prior to August 28, 1964, pot was used mostly by jazz musicians and beatniks, not mainstream America. But after the Beatles toked up and told the world they liked it, millions of others followed suit. The attention the marijuana anniversary is receiving doesn't sit well with American drug policy officials. A spokesman for Drug Czar Barry McCaffery says calling the day the Beatles first got high a culturally significant event is ridiculous because the heyday of marijuana has passed. Officials claim pot use is now half of what it was in 1978 when 26 million Americans admitted they toked up regularly -- which may explain why you hardly ever hear Dylan singing "Everybody Must Get Stoned."
