CHURCH OF MENTOS ANGRY OVER NEW AD CAMPAIGN

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- A new ad campaign for Mentos candies has a San Jose-based religious organization called the "Church of Mentos" mad as hell. The new ads contain none of the 30-second melodramas featured in early spots and that's got Church of Mentos founder Roy Batchelor griping. The Reverend Roy -- who refers to Mentos as "sacramints" -- considers the old ads to be religious parables that pass on important wisdom -- like how to enlist four burly construction workers into lifting your car out of a cramped parking space. The Church of Mentos plans on organizing a campaign to encourage the candy maker to go back to the old campaign -- but if that doesn't work, Reverend Roy says a boycott may be in order. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Mentos claims the new ads still teach life lessons such as: "Splashing in a water fountain is a great way to keep cool in hot weather."
