WHY BREAKDANCERS HATE `BREAKIN' 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO'

ELMIRA, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) -- Breakdancing is becoming popular again, but don't think you can learn how to do it by watching those 1984 flicks "Breakin'" or "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" - - they just ain't the real thing. That's according to Santiago Torres -- aka JoeJoe of the Rock Steady Crew -- who says the films don't feature any of the real breakdancing moves used by the "b-boys" who created the art form back in the '70s. Both flicks feature popping and locking moves that are typical of "electric boogie" dancers, but Torres says there are no legitimate breakdancing moves like back spins -- which he invented in 1977. Torres claims real breakdancers actually considered boycotting the movies because -- in his words -- "You shouldn't name a movie "Breakin'" if you don't show any breakin' in it." The breakdancing pioneer hopes to set the record straight when he appears at a hip-hop conference at the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland next month.
