GEN XERS SAY BYE-BYE TO SWING, HELLO TO MAMBO

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Forget the so-called swing revival because mambo music is the latest pop culture artifact to be resurrected by Gen X'ers. One of the fastest rising singles in America is a hip-hop remake of the Perez Prado tune, "Mambo No. 5," by 24-year-old conga-player Lou Bega. The Ugandan-born Bega learned the basics of mambo music while vacationing in Miami, but he claims the new mambo revival actually started in Germany, which is where his song first became a hit. It has since become a No. 1 hit in 15 other countries. Amazingly, Bega's mambo song is just part of what experts believe could be the next trend in retro. The coffee lords at Starbucks also released a CD collection of mambo music earlier this spring that quickly became one of the company's best sellers.
