DAWN OF MAN: ONE BIG CLAMBAKE?

TORONTO, Can. (Wireless Flash) -- The dawn of man may have been one big clambake if researchers at the University of Toronto are correct. Nutritional scientist Dr. Stephen Cunnane says evidence suggests the first humans weren't grassland hunter-gatherers, but rather seafood eaters who gorged on oysters, shrimp and other shellfish. The theory is that the human brain evolves best on a diet rich in a fatty acid known as "DHA." DHA isn't found much in the grassy African savanna, but it is abundant in mussels and other shellfish, which leads Cunnane to believe mankind may have started as a giant beach party that only moved inland later. The DHA may have helped early humans progress in other ways too: The fatty acid is also necessary for the production of sperm.
