HURRICANE FLOYD: WIMPY NAME SHOULD BE CHANGED

MINNEAPOLIS (Wireless Flash) -- What's in a name? A lot -- if you're talking about hurricanes. Now a name expert is calling for a change in the policy used to name hurricanes. Name expert Bruce Lansky claims many of the names selected by the World Meteorological Organization are wimpy and give no sense of the catastrophic destruction hurricanes can cause. As a result, people tend to disregard official warnings. He says Hurricane Floyd is a perfect example: it's weak and brings to mind what Lansky calls "a chubby little momma's boy." The name expert wants the meteorological organization to use names that inspire the fear of death -- names like "Hurricane T- Rex," "Hurricane Damien" or "Hurricane Moby Dick." A spokesperson for the World Meteorological Organization says the group will entertain any suggestions, but the names of hurricanes through 2003 are already set in stone -- including the not-so-fierce monikers of "Harvey," "Nate" and "Wilma."
