JIMMY CARTER TURNS 75

LEARY, Ga. (Wireless Flash) -- Jimmy Carter may have alienated some voters as President, but he's A-OK with UFO buffs. That's because Carter -- who turns 75 tomorrow (Oct. 1) -- is the only American president who admits to seeing a UFO. Thirty years ago, on January 6, 1969, Carter saw what he described as a moon-sized orb hovering low over Leary, Georgia. He claimed the UFO changed colors from red to green and was the "darndest thing" he'd ever seen. The encounter prompted Carter to make the ambitious vow that, if he were elected, he would "make every piece of information [the U.S. has] about UFOs available to the public." Michigan-based UFO researcher Dan Wright says Carter even approached NASA during the beginning of his presidency about re- opening Project Bluebook, the government's investigation into flying saucers. However, NASA denied the request, and after that, the President lost all interest in aliens.
