TV GEEK STEVEN URKEL BECOMES FASHION ICON

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- Never underestimate the lengths a man will go to look fashionable. Case in point: the National Association of Men's Sportswear Buyers is predicting that short pants that reach above the ankle will be a major trend for gentlemen's clothes next spring. The pants will range in length from just above the ankle "high waters" to "capri-pants" that hit just below the knee, and will be popular with guys who wear the top designer duds. Spokesperson Jack Herschlag admits the pants resemble the slacks sported by TV geek Steven Urkel, but he says the style has become so square that it's now hip. He also predicts men will respond to the bare leg look by wearing elaborate hosiery much like the days of knee-breeches and knickers.
