30TH ANNIVERSARY OF `MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS'

ATLANTA (Wireless Flash) -- Fans of British humor may want to raise a toast tomorrow (Oct. 5): it's the 30th anniversary of the day "Monty Python's Flying Circus" premiered on the BBC. Although the show only ran five years, it still remains a cult hit around the world -- which Python expert Jim Yoakum attributes to the comedy troupe's rock star-like stature. Yoakum -- author of "The (Non-Inflatable) Monty Python TV Companion" (Dowling Press) -- says the comedians were "scouted" for the show in much the same way a rock band is formed. The Pythons even toured in a live road show that played big rock arenas like the Hollywood Bowl. The resulting rock `n' roll image has created a rabid fan base that will now consume anything remotely relating to the show -- including a series of corporate training videos made by John Cleese in the 1980s.
