REAL ODD JOBS: MANHOLE WATCHING, TANK-RIDING

OKLAHOMA CITY (Wireless Flash) -- How'd you like to be paid $8 an hour to sit on your duff watching a manhole? Believe it or not, that job is actually being offered by the Oklahoma City-based Express Personnel Services, which specializes in finding temporary work for the unemployed. The manhole-watchers are allowed to read magazines while on the job, just as long as they make sure no one moves any barricades while technicians are working in the hole. Other odd jobs offered by the firm include... -- A $10-an-hour position that involves riding in an Army tank to test protective armor. -- A gig that involves providing the singing voice for a 9- foot-tall mechanical bear used as a shopping mall promotion. -- And a James Bond-like job which pays $8 an hour to spy on sandwich shops to make sure they're following corporate protocol.
