MESSED-UP QUARTERS WORTH A MINT TO COLLECTORS

HAWTHORNE, N.J. (Wireless Flash) -- Goof-ups at the U.S. Mint could be worth a mint to coin collectors, according to a coin expert in Hawthorne, New Jersey. Andrew Gause says the Mint recently released an unknown number of quarters featuring upside-down designs. Amazingly, the clinker coins may be worth $500 to coin collectors. Here's how you tell if your quarter is worth big bucks: Put George Washington's picture right side up and turn the coin over like it's a page in a book. The back design should be upside- down. If it's right-side-up, you may have a valuable collectors item. Another goof-up from the Denver Mint resulted in some of the Pennsylvania series of quarters being slightly thicker than normal. The coins often become jammed in vending machines and parking meters, but some collectors are paying up to $2 for each coin.
