AUTO MECHANIC SHORTAGE DRIVING FOLKS CRAZY

GENEVA, Ill. (Wireless Flash) -- A shortage of U.S. auto mechanics is literally driving folks crazy. That's the word from auto expert Tom Fennell, who estimates the auto industry is losing 60,000 mechanics a year because of the lack of new recruits. Fennell blames it on the myth that auto repair is a profession for dim-witted "grease monkeys." But these days mechanics are more likely to be computer geeks than gear-heads because modern cars have so many computerized parts. Fennell says the current shortage of auto mechanics spells profit for folks entering the business because car dealers are so desperate for mechanics that they're paying big bucks. Fennell is the author of the upcoming book "Who's Gonna Fix Your Car Now? The Mechanic Shortage: The Cause and the Cure" (Weesee).
