REAL X-FILES CLOSED 30 YEARS AGO

DAYTON, Ohio (Wireless Flash) -- This Friday (Dec. 17) marks the 30th anniversary of the closing down of the real X-Files: The U.S. government's "Project Blue Book." The Air Force project investigated reports of unidentified flying objects, and on December 17, 1969, a conclusion was reached: flying saucers aren't from outer space. Project Blue Book started in 1947, and over its 22 year history investigators sifted through more than 12,000 reports of flying saucers. Out of the 12,000 cases, only 701 were found to be truly "unidentified sightings." UFO researcher Walter Andrus of the Mutual UFO Network believes there may have been more but claims Air Force officers fudged on the details to "explain things away." These days, most UFO sightings are reported to citizen-based organizations like MUFON, which was created in 1969 just as Project Blue Book was closing down. Although Andrus doubts it will happen, he hopes the government will use the anniversary to finally announce the truth about UFOs.
