BENEDICT ARNOLD GETTING BAD RAP?

SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. (Wireless Flash) -- Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the birth of Benedict Arnold, America's most famous traitor and spy -- or was he? A 75-year-old New Jersey man claims evidence shows Arnold was framed and he's now fighting to have the U.S. government reopen Arnold's more than 200-year-old court martial trial. Voice-over instructor Vincent Lindner claims Arnold wasn't a traitor who helped the British -- he was simply "negotiating" an end to the war so the Yanks wouldn't suffer through a cold winter. He also says Arnold spent four years fighting for America without pay, and the United States owed him 17,000 pounds at the time of his death. Since statute of limitations prevent Arnold's descendants from claiming what would now be millions of dollars, Lindner thinks Congress should set aside the money to fund programs for Vietnam vets and a World War II memorial.
