MULLET HAIRCUT INSPIRES DOCUMENTARY

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) -- Remember the '80s haircut "The Mullet," where the hair is cut short on the sides and long in back? Believe it or not, the hairdo is the subject of a new documentary, "Business In Front, Party Out Back." San Diego-based filmmaker Bryan Spevak says the Mullet has been around since David Bowie wore one as "Ziggy Stardust," but these days the haircut is mostly worn by retro rockers and monster truck fans. The Mullet is also called the Mississippi mudflap, the beaver paddle, the squirrel pelt and the 1090 cut (because it's 10 percent front, 90 percent back). Although Spevak learned a lot about the misunderstood style while making the movie, he says for some reason not one Mullet wearer would talk about their hairstyle on camera.
