OSCAR-NIGHT JEWELRY LOOKS GOOD TO THIEVES

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Oscar night could be a sparkling success for jewel thieves. It's feared the recent heist of 55 Oscar statuettes could inspire real-life jewel thieves to rip the rocks off celebrities such as Catherine Zeta-Jones or Gwyneth Paltrow. According to Hollywood-based security expert Don Crutchfield some cat burglars may try to hide as security guards or ushers, while other well-to-do professional thieves may use connections to wrangle Oscar invites. Crutchfield thinks if thieves do hit on Oscar night, they'll probably strike before the ceremony begins by bumping into stars as they walk the red carpet. He claims the risk of Academy Award jewel thefts is so high, some jewelers are protecting their investments by requiring celebrities to wear costume jewelry knock-offs.
