WORLD'S LOUDEST SNORER CELEBRATES SLEEP APNEA AWARENESS DAY

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash) -- Today (Mar. 27) could be good "snooze" for snorers: It's the world's first Sleep Apnea Awareness Day. The American Sleep Apnea Association says loud snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea which, if let unchecked, can lead to heart disease, weight gain and even impotence. One person celebrating is Melvyn Switzer, a 60-year-old cable TV repairman in Southampton, England, who holds the Guinness World Record for "loudest snorer." His snoring has been measured at 92 decibels -- which is louder than a revving motorcycle and the reason why his wife is deaf in one ear. Although Switzer claims herbal snore drops have controlled his problem, he admits he sometimes snores after a few beers or a late meal.
