MAGNETS CAN ATTRACT CANCER DRUGS TO TUMORS

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Researchers at UCLA Medical Center are experimenting with a new technique that uses magnets to attract cancer drugs directly to a tumor. Patients are given doses of chemotherapy drugs mixed with tiny magnetic particles. Doctors then hold a soup can-sized magnet over the tumor to attract the magnetized drugs. Dr. Scott C. Goodwin says not only is the technique effective in reducing tumor size, patients also suffer fewer side effects. He will present his research at the a meeting of the Society of Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology in San Diego today (Mar. 27).
