KER-PLUNK: WATERMELON SEED SPITTING CONTEST JUICES UP

LULING, Texas (Wireless Flash) -- Spitting in public isn't considered rude in the town of Luling, Texas. In fact, folks there may reward you for doing it just right. Luling is home to the annual Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, where contestants vie for the title of top spitter. The 30th annual seed spit will take place this Saturday (Jun. 26), and contestants will be twirling their tongues trying to beat the current world seed spitting record of 68 feet, 9-1/8 inches. Spokesman Trey Bailey says there are as many spitting techniques as there are spitters, but the best spitters tend to create a tunnel with their tongues for spitting the seeds. The winning spitter will walk away with a trophy and $500 or $1000 if the winner breaks the world record.
