DENTAL RESEARCHERS WORKING ON CAVITY-CURING CANDY

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (Wireless Flash) -- Here's a treatment that's a treat: candy that cures cavities. Researchers at the American Dental Association are currently working on a compound that could turn sweets into cavity-busting treats. Dr. Frederick C. Eichmiller says his team has already formulated toothpaste and gum that heals cavities at the early stages by rebuilding teeth with calcium phosphate. He admits it will be an odd day when dentists prescribe candy and gum to treat cavities, but predicts cavity-fighting candy could become the norm in the near future.
