35TH ANNIVERSARY OF TRIGGER'S DEATH (JULY 3)

VICTORVILLE, Ca. (Wireless Flash) -- Monday will mark the 35th anniversary of a sad event: The day Roy Rogers' horse, Trigger, moved on to happier trails. On July 3, 1965, the 33-year-old golden palomino died from a heart attack on Rogers' ranch near Santa Barbara, California. Trigger knew more than 100 tricks, including rhumba- dancing and gate-opening but, best of all, he was housebroken. Rogers' son, Roy Jr., says Trigger and his father were so close that the cowboy star instinctively knew the moment the horse died before anyone told him. Rogers reportedly was so sad about the horse's death, that he didn't let his children know about it until a year later. Trigger is currently on display at the Roy Rogers/Dale Evans museum in Victorville, California, and while there are no anniversary plans, Roy Jr., says after 35 years, he's still a big draw.
