`BATTLEFIELD EARTH' DESTINED TO BECOME A CLASSIC?

BALTIMORE (Wireless Flash) -- John Travolta's sci-fi flick "Battlefield Earth" may have been universally panned -- but one sci-fi author is predicting it will walk away with the sci-fi version of the Oscar. John L. Flynn claims sci-fi freaks love "Battlefield Earth" and consider it one of the year's best films. In fact, a recent sci-fi convention screened the flick nightly to rave reviews. Flynn thinks the flick got a bad rap from reviewers because film critics don't take sci-fi seriously. The author points out that now-classic sci-fi films like "2001" and "Blade Runner" were trashed by the media when first released -- but later gained cult status when released on video. He's predicting the same thing will happen with "Battlefield Earth" and that the movie will be voted Best Picture of 2000 at next year's World Science Fiction Convention.
