`I'M SORRY' HIT NO. 1 40 YEARS AGO (JUL. 18)

NASHVILLE (Wireless Flash) -- Today, (July 18) is the 40th anniversary of the day the song "I'm Sorry" hit No. 1 -- and singer Brenda Lee isn't sorry at all. She says she loved the song the moment she first heard it, but record executives were skeptical that a 15-year-old girl could handle lyrics about unrequited love. As a result, the actual recording of "I'm Sorry" took place at the end of a taping session and the band faked a quick arrangement. Lee's record company was so skeptical it dumped "I'm Sorry" on a B-side, but the song became a hit anyway and held the top spot for three weeks. These days, Lee is working on her autobiography and, although she has no title, she says she may call it, "I'm Not Sorry."
