INVENTOR CREATES SUGAR-EATING ROBOT

TAMPA, Fla. (Wireless Flash) -- Flesh-eating robots may sound like something out of a horror flick -- but they could exist in the near future thanks to a scientist in Tampa, Florida. University of South Florida engineering professor Dr. Stuart Wilkinson has invented "Chew Chew," a train-like robot that uses a fuel cell that "digests" sugar to create electricity. Currently, the "gastrobot" gets energy by consuming sugar cubes but Wilkinson is working on robots that can convert other types of foods into energy. Wilkinson theorizes meat could eventually become an ideal robot food source since it yields more energy than vegetables. However, he says he has no intention of building meat- eating robots that hunt their own food so sedentary vegetables might be the better bet. Wilkinson also jokes he's hesitant to put "Chew-Chew" on a meat diet just in case it develops a craving for human flesh.
