ANDREW GOLD: STILL HASSLED ABOUT `LONELY BOY'

NASHVILLE (Wireless Flash) -- Singer Andrew Gold turns 49 tomorrow (Aug. 2) and, amazingly, he's still dogged by controversy surrounding his 1977 hit, "Lonely Boy." Gold says fans still want to know if the song -- which concerns a kid who gets ticked off when he gets a sister -- is autobiographical. In fact, Gold's mother, actress Marni Nixon, admits she broke out in tears when she first heard the ditty fearing she had unknowingly traumatized her son. However, Gold insists he holds no animosity and insists the song's only autobiographical parts are the lyrics mentioning dates such as "He was born on a summer's day/ 1951." Nevertheless, he's still confronted by folks who either feel sorry for him or think he was making a big deal out of nothing. Gold's latest CD is "Spence Manor Suite."
