FIRST AID FOR HEARING AIDS

ST. LOUIS (Wireless Flash) -- Here's a reason to prick up your ears: A new study shows hearing aids can harbor infectious diseases. It seems diseases like meningitis and diphtheria are being spread by audiologists who aren't washing their hands between patients. Dr. A. U. Bankaitis of St. Louis University School of Medicine says a survey of 300 audiologists revealed that none of them wore gloves while handling hearing aids and 40 percent don't bother to wash their hands between patients. Dr. Bankaitis suggests doctors wash their hands or wear gloves before handling hearing aids and warns the hearing impaired to never swap their hearing aids.
