BRITISH CASTAWAY SHOW LEAVES `SURVIVOR' COLD

GLASGOW, Scotland (Wireless Flash) -- The season finale of "Survivor" will take place tomorrow (Aug. 23) but if you think 39 days on a tropical paradise is tough, try spending a year on a deserted island off the coast of Scotland. That's the premise of "Castaway," a popular British program that will make its U.S. debut next month on BBC America. The game involves 36 people stranded on a remote Scottish island, where sub-zero temperatures and 120-mph winds are common. The castaways have been on the island since December 31 and one 58-year-old islander admits she's using the show to "grow old disgracefully." and live the hippie life she missed out on in the '60s. BBC producer Chris Kelly admits comparisons to "Survivor" are inevitable, but his castaways aren't competing for prizes -- they're just trying to avoid killing each other.
