PERCY SLEDGE: A SOUL SURVIVOR OVER DIABETES

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Wireless Flash) -- Soul singer Percy Sledge knows something about being a soul survivor: He almost died from a case of undiagnosed diabetes. The 59-year-old singer -- best known for "When A Man Loves A Woman" -- recently found out he had diabetes just hours before a scheduled performance. Doctors say his sugar level was so high, they were surprised he could walk, much less perform. Since receiving the news, Percy has changed his diet, kicked caffeine and says he's singing better than ever. He also feels his songwriting juices are overflowing and he's considering writing a soul song about diabetes to help others with the condition. Sledge will discuss his bout with diabetes on "Diabetes Dinner Talk," a syndicated radio show that premieres next Wednesday (Sept. 27).
