THE TRUTH ABOUT EDDIE WOOD'S FLYING SAUCERS

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Plan 9 From Outer Space director Ed Wood's filmmaking techniques weren't as cheesy as legend has it. That's the word from sci-fi collector Bob Burns, who owns two of the prop flying saucers Wood used in the movie -- a flick generally regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. Burns says contrary to Hollywood legend, the director didn't use silver-painted paper plates as saucers in the film -- a myth that was further spread by Tim Burton's 1994 film about the director. He says the props used in the flick were actually store- bought models that are much more realistic-looking than the paper plates Burton used in his reenactment of the Plan 9 shoot. Burns shares other secrets of Hollywood sci-fi props in his upcoming book, It Came From Bob's Basement (Chronicle).
