BRIT MOUNTS EFFORT TO ‘CHANJ’ THE WAY WE ‘SPEL’

OXFORD, U.K. (Wireless Flash) – A British man is mounting an international effort to change the way words are spelled in English. Former BBC producer Richard Wade claims illogical English spelling is one reason many English speakers can’t read. To liberate the masses, he’s started something called the “freespeling” movement, which encourages people to spell words like they sound. Under Wade’s plan, the “ph” in the word “photograph” becomes an “f,” the word “letter” is spelled with only one “t” and the “ge” at the end of the word “change” becomes just a “j.” Wade says he thinks the new system could work wonders for literacy – as well as ease the burden on folks who write closed captions on TV shows. In fact, he thinks captions would be a great place to start exposing the public to the “freespeling” effort.
