SINGING FIREMAN STRIKING A CHORD WITH DALE EARNHARDT FANS

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Wireless Flash) – A Memphis fireman who sings country music is striking a chord with the fans of late race car driver Dale Earnhardt. Fireman John Murley wrote his tribute tune, “Number 3” two days after Earnhardt was killed last February. The tune was released online two weeks ago at the mp3.com website and, ever since, Murley’s received 200 e-mails a day – some from as far away as New Zealand. Most people say they were driven to write him because of the pro-Earnhardt lyrics like, I bet he just qualified/ And he’s sittin’ on the pole/ Ready to take the checkered flag/ On the speedway of gold. Although Murley has no plans to resign from his fire fighting post, he admits that, under the right circumstances, he might consider trading his fireman’s hat for a cowboy hat.
