COLLECTORS LOSING THEIR MARBLES OVER MARBLES

CLEVELAND (Wireless Flash) – You may think there’s money to be made in counterfeit bills, but the real money is in counterfeit marbles. According to collectibles experts Ralph and Terry Kovel, the United States is being flooded by Mexican marble counterfeiters who are making a mint off phony marbles sold on internet auctions. The marbles are knock-offs of a red and blue swirled marble known as “The Superman,” which sells for $300 each if real. The phony baloney marbles retail for $10, but they’ve been popping up at online auctions for the genuine price. Terry Kovel warns unsuspecting buyers that the fakes look so good in a picture that it is impossible to tell a fake online. She recommends marble collectors only buy a Superman from a reputable dealer. The Kovels are authors of the new book Bid, Buy, and Sell Online (Three Rivers).
