POWER TO THE ‘POO-PILE’



LACEY, Wash. (Wireless Flash) – Talk about power to the “poo- pile” – utility companies in Washington state may soon start using cow dung to generate electricity. According to Jay Gordon of the Washington State Dairy Foundation, state legislators are flushed with excitement over an alternative energy process which uses methane produced by cow manure. He says the current energy crisis has really steamed up interest in dung power plants, which could be run off of the waste produced by the state’s 246,000 dairy cows. Gordon admits the methane heating method can be stinky for folks at the production end, but he claims the stench burns off long before the electricity is piped into consumers’ homes.
