‘LADY MARMALADE’ COMPOSER SWEET ON REMAKE

‘LADY MARMALADE’ COMPOSER SWEET ON REMAKE

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Although not everyone is sweet on the new remake of “Lady Marmalade,” the song’s composer sure is. Kenny Nolan – who co-wrote the song in 1974 with Bob Crewe – thinks the new version sung by Christina Aguilera, Pink, L’il Kim and Mya is “absolutely spectacular” and “better than Patti LaBelle’s.” Nolan says, contrary to popular belief, there was no real-life “Lady Marmalade,” and the song was inspired after he started repeating the nonsense phrase, “Gitchee Gitchee Yaya Dada.” He thought the phrase sounded like something a hooker would say and knew he was onto something after he discovered the French phrase, “Voulez-vous couchez avec moi ce soir” – “Will you sleep with me tonight?” in English. Although Nolan wrote “Lady Marmalade” 26 years ago, the hit is helping him get recognized by a new generation of singers, and he’s planning to start writing songs for Pink and Jordan Knight.
